About Us

Our members share a love of walking and the countryside. Many walks end at a pub or tea room where we can have a friendly chat. Walkers find their own way to the starting point, usually by car, and we encourage members to car share. There are also several coach trips, rail rambles and some using local bus routes. Occasionally challenge walks and national and local trails are organised by members/secretaries.

We have an active committee and each grade of walk has a walks secretary to put together a varied and interesting programme.

Members are encouraged to lead a walk after walking with the club for 12 months. Help is available from Walks’ Secretaries and other members. Help with map reading is covered by occasional walks teaching basic orienteering skills.

This is a very friendly club and we also like to meet for social events – an Annual Dinner, Ceilidh, President’s Day, Boxing Day Reviver, New Year Lunch and many more informal lunch meetings.

“In Bolton’s heart, where hills embrace,
A club of walkers finds their pace.
Founded in nineteen twenty-two,
With boots and maps, they journey through.
From Wednesday’s dawn to Sunday’s light,
They tread the paths, both day and night.
Through fields and fells, by streams they roam,
Each step a story, each trail a home.
With laughter shared and friendships grown,
In nature’s arms, they’re never alone.
From summer’s sun to winter’s chill,
They climb each peak, they cross each hill.
In pubs and tea rooms, tales are spun,
Of walks completed, battles won.
With every mile, their spirits soar,
In Bolton’s beauty, they explore.
So here’s to BoltonHF, so grand,
With walking boots and hearts in hand.
May trails be kind, and skies be blue,
For every step, a dream come true.”
